Who We Are

2KG Contractors Inc. was founded in 1989 by Kevin Folker. The company took its first steps as a general contractor working on small public and private projects. Since then 2KG has grown steadily and strategically, expanding its staff, broadening its experience, and striving to make a positive influence in the community.

Mario Lipari became a co-owner of 2KG in 2011, and in 2020 Spencer Stone joined the ownership team. Now with a project portfolio of over $400 million, Kevin, Mario, and Spencer have positioned 2KG for continued growth and success throughout the Northwest.

Kevin Folker

Treasurer

Kevin grew up working for the family construction business in Eugene, Oregon. He helped build barns in junior high school, houses in high school and public works structures in college. After earning an Industrial Engineering degree from Oregon State University, Kevin relocated to Portland. Forming a construction company and enjoying the challenges that went with it was a natural progression.

As an analytical thinker with an even tempered personality, running a construction business offers Kevin the perfect balance and satisfaction of creating structures and building strong relationships with clients and employees.

In his spare time, Kevin passionately pursues the sports of kiteboarding, cycling and mountain biking alongside his wife and daughter.

Mario Lipari

President

Mario’s fascination for how things work began while he held a flashlight for his father, working on cars or building something in the garage with his two brothers. It was no surprise when Mario headed to Kansas State University to acquire his Mechanical Engineering degree and expand on his obsessions.

After college Mario started his career in the automotive conveyor industry as a Project Engineer, but quickly realized how much he enjoyed being in the field building start to finish and found himself working for an architect doing design/build projects. Next, Mario pulled up stakes from the Midwest to wear his nail bags and lead a crew as a superintendent for a high-end custom home builder and remodeler in La Jolla, CA.

After relocating to the Pacific Northwest, Mario joined the 2KG team. This role was the perfect fit; Mario looked to Kevin as a mentor to teach him the business side of construction. Several years later Mario and Kevin partnered to lead 2KG and expand the business.

When he’s not working, Mario enjoys spending time with his daughter, cooking, cycling, and kiteboarding in the Columbia River Gorge.

Spencer Stone

Secretary

Spencer grew up in Birmingham AL where housing developments were springing up around his neighborhood. His fascination with building began from the age of six when he and his best friend started explored new houses as they were being built. He has always been mechanically inclined and enjoys figuring out how things go together and how the pieces work.

He moved to Portland in 1992 where he attended college and became interested in how molecules go together and received a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. He was offered a job in the Chemical Engineering Department at Nike fresh out of college and worked for two years in Taiwan for footwear production.

He returned to the states to continue working for Nike in materials science for another eight years until his acquaintance with Mario and his interest in building carried him into construction. He started working for 2KG in 2007 as a project engineer, progressing for the next several years to a project manager position. In 2020 he became a joint owner of 2KG.

When not at work, Spencer enjoys baking, building projects around the house, tinkering with botanical extraction, and spending time with his wife and daughter.  His most recent interest has led him to design and build a supercritical CO2 extractor, which presents technical challenges that he enjoys solving.

The Team

The 2KG staff brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the table. Each member of 2KG’s management team has worked in every aspect of the business from production to bidding, and has worked as a project engineer, superintendent or project manager. 2KG finds cohesive balance on our project teams by utilizing a flat organization. Bypassing a multi-level management structure, 2KG empowers its managers and supervisors which allows for efficient operation and implementation of the work. To ensure that each project is a success, Kevin, Mario, and Spencer plan carefully before breaking ground. They are also careful to select the right mix of management personal for every project.

David Smethers

Project Manager

I started in construction in 1996 as a laborer for a concrete contractor. I only worked for 2 separate companies prior to starting with 2KG in 2004. I started as a carpenter/foreman for 3 years before being promoted to Superintendent. I have been running work ever since then.

I have worked my way up through the trades to become a project manager, I feel this provides a unique approach to my projects. I utilize the professionals at 2KG to hep me achieve successful projects and enjoy it very much.

I have a strong belief that an organized and communitive form of construction management brings out the best in all trades and provides for a successful project for all involved. I work hard to provide this on all my Projects.

I work hard for 2KG 5 days a week but truly take advantage of my free time. My wife and I enjoy hiking and golf. We actively pursue both passions when ever we can. I have also built a small wood shop and have been honing my skills as a woodcraftsman. I enjoy building things and creating unique items out of wood or metal. I have much to learn but it will provide years of enjoyment through retirement, whenever that happens.

My biggest entertainment fun is watching and listening to anything Star Wars. My wife and really enjoy sitting by the fireplace and listening to a chapter or 2 of a Star Wars book like listening to old time radio. I do not think we will ever listen to everything Star Wars has to offer, so this will be lasting form of entertainment for us.
